Are you on the lookout for a natural fibre yarn in beautiful natural colours? Or would you rather want a pair of durable, super-soft socks? Then you should take a closer look at our selection of yarn from ONION.

The Danish yarn producer ONION Yarn has their main focus on ecology, animal welfare, conditions during production, and on the next generations. Onion was established in 1998 by Jette Frøkiar but at that time, the company only made sewing patterns. Since then, the company has evolved and now also produces fabric, yarn, and accessories.

Environmentally conscious production

On this page, you will find an assortment of popular natural fibre yarns from Onion. These quality yarns have been produced in a sustainable way in Italy, which also ensures that working conditions are according to European standards. ONION also has high criteria for the quality of the yarn, so you can always be sure that the yarn is of great quality. A special trademark of the company is their series of yarn consisting of 70% organic wool and 30% nettle fibres. Of course, this type of yarn is also available in our range. For the production of this product, ONION underlines that they have an "intelligent ecology" thinking, as shown by the fact that they, for example, do not use organic nettle fibres in their yarns, claiming that no one is spraying their nettles with manure anyway. These fibres are supplied from renowned producers in China, who have been ONION's partners for many years and who also comply with the strict environmental rules and requirements of the company. There is a sense of fulfilment for ONION in being a supplier of high-quality yarns produced under environmental care — a yarn that is good for both you and the environment.

A large selection of natural colours

Clicking on the images of the different types of yarn, you will find a page where you can read more about the different qualities. For example, you can learn more about what the different yarns consist of and what knitting needles you need and find a washing instruction. In addition, you can find inspiration for what the different types of yarn can be used for and find a more specific description of what the yarn looks like. It is also here that you will find the exact colour range of the selected quality. It is important in this context to stress that the dyeing of the yarn is not certified as organic by GOTS. In this respect, ONON states that this lack of certification is due to economic reasons since such GOTS certification is an additional cost which will result in a significant increase in the price of the yarn. However, ONION wants to let you know that this does not mean that they do not comply with IMO/GOTS standards — quite the contrary.
